Impact of social media on mental health.

Social net working sites refer to multitude of websites that let
people interact globally through photos, videos and audios. To
name a few, facebook tops the listfollowed by twitter and linkedin. Results show that 42% of the population on line at a time are using these sites either on their laptops or mobiles.
Majority of this population is below the age of 30 years whereas
the figure is fastly changing for the internet users aged 65 years
and above.
People use these sites to stay connected to their family and freinds,to share things, express their views and to find out what is happening around the world. But this usage can have many
negative effects on the mental healthas users being children and adult.
1. It is addictive-It has been seen that these social sites are often
addictive with people using them daili or even many a times in
a day. They access these sites for many reasons like to overcome
in life, distractions,to check likes and comments which are positive support after posting a status or information.
2.It makes us do unfair comparison-Various posts on these sites
at times make people compare their lives with others and it is said that that the grass is greener on the other side always and it makes you feel low, thinking how idealized are the lives of people
connected to them
3.These sites make us feel restless being unable to access their
accounts.
4.Social media increases cyberbullying mainly in adolescent.
Increased use of alcohol-These sites glamarizes the use of alcohol
since the teenagers often view the pictures of people using it and
being influenced would like to try them.
5. It increases unhappiness- young users feel that it changes their
moods leaving them dissatisfied in their lives.
6. Fear of missing out-Pinterest might give you a feeling that you
are not creative, twitter and facebook can make you feel that you
are not smart and you are not enjoying life enough.
Excessive use of social sites may led to problems like anxiety,
feeling of imperfection and may induce a feeling of being miserable.
I have tried to depict one side of these sites but one has to accept
that they have lot of usefullness and one should use it rationally.
I will be uptil now and hope to bring a new post in future.
Bye for now and regards for my readers.
