Hi everybody and welcome,
I mentioned in my earlier post that India is having a diabetic
population of 50 millions and hence I think it should be number
one priority of the govt. agencies to combat the menace at least by increasing the awareness in the general mass. I have discussed this issue with my house physician and came to know
that diabetes and cardiovascular disease run side by side.
One of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease(CVD) is
diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to major heart problems. It is thus pertinent to take timely actions to control the
insulin related issues and save ourselves from cardiovascular
disease.
Atrial fibrillation means an irregular and rapid heart rate which
can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other cardia issues. Individuals with diabetes are at an increased risk of developing atrial fibrillation. This risk is higher amongst patients
with diabetes.
Hyperglycemia means high glucose level in the blood.Your body
needs glucose to properly function. Your cells rely on glucose for
energy. Hyperglycemia is defining charecteristic of diabetes, when blood glucose level is too high because the body is not
properly using or does not produce insulin.
Hypertension in diabetes is considered a major contributor to the increase in the mortality from cardiovascular diseases. Diabetic patients, specially type 2, need to have their blood pressure checked at every visit to the doctor. Self monitering at
home is also a must to maintain and control the rise of blood pressure. The recommended target of blood pressure should not
be more than 130/85 mmHg to maintain a good level of blood
pressure.
Smoking has always been very dangerous for our health.
Smoking indeed increases the risk of premature death and cardiovascular diseases in diabetic patients.
